Download and Installation
You need to download the skin AND the mesh, if you think you don't have this one already. It doesn't matter if you download it several times, but you need to have it once.
For example, once you have downloaded a B325fafit mesh (used in the women formal pages), you don't need to download it again. If, when you install a mesh in your skins folder, your computer tells you that you have already a file with the same name and asks you if you want to replace it, say no, and put the mesh in the trash.
Same thing for the Hot Date skins: you'll need the meshes as well.
Installation
Once they're unzipped, you need to install the .bmp, the .skn and the .cmx files in your The SimsGameDataSkins folder.
You need to install the *files* not the folders: folders included in the skins folder won't work.Be careful on this point, or the skins won't appear in the game.
As they're zipped on a Mac, the process of installation might be a bit different from the one you're used to do, so you can have a look at the Step-by-step (look below).
Step by Step
If this explanation isn't enough for you, there's a full step-by-step with pictures that will help you: one is made for PC, one for Mac, and if you don't know if you have a Mac or a PC, have a look here.
Why don't you include the meshes with the skins? It would be easier to download..
Well, unfortunatly, it would use too much space on my server to add several times the same file, and it would also make the downloadable files bigger, and the bigger the files are, the more bandwith it uses, and we all know that bandwith is a precious treasure to not abuse..

I have unzipped your skins and installed them in the right place, butthey don't appear in the game.. What happens?!
Be sure to have downloaded the skin AND the mesh.
Be sure to have downloaded the version you wanted to (Hot Date, Vacations, the Sims..)
Be sure that there's no folder in your Skins folder, but only files. That's the error the most common. To avoid it, have a look at the step-by-step for installation.
The NPCs I downloaded from your site have only hands! What's wrong? How to install your NPCs?
Ok, so you can't see the bodies nor the heads? Then, you haven't installed them correctly. I might not have been really clear in my Read-me, then, because I tried to explain how it needed to be installed, but some of you didn't seem to have understood what I meant, so.. Let's start again. =)
Once you have downloaded the dining-podium or the bar, you need to unzip it. Then, you find two folders in your unzipped folder. One contents .skn, .cmx and .bmp, and is called 'Skins'. You need to drag the content of this folder in your GameData/Skins folder. The *content*. I insist on this point because all the ones who had troubles dragged the whole folder in the Skins folder, and not only the content. And as I've already said in the FAQ: you can't have folders in your Skins folders. In your unzipped folder of the podium, you find also another folder, with .iff files (podium, bar, NPC..). You need to drag the content of this folder in the GameData/UserObjects one.
And if my english is really far to be clear for you, here's what wrote an user. She wrote what I meant in other words. you might understand her better. Thanks Kerri! ;)
'The reason mine were not working is that winzip unzipped them into new folders inside my userobjects folder and skins folder. After I took them out of the individual folders and just put them in the actual userobjects and skins folders, all is well and works great! :) '
Here's also a picture of what you should see and what you shouldn't.
I have a Mac and most of the skins I download from other sites than yours don't work. Why and what can I do?
Mac is limited to 31 characters for files names (for Mac OS system older than OS X), while Windows 98 can support much more.. So, sometimes, the names are cut when you unzip them on your Mac, and the skins won't work. So does it mean we have no solution? Noooo! We used to have a long process for converting the skins with Simple Text, but now, we have a much easier tool: SkinShrinker. Simply drag a .cmx file on Skin Shrinker, and voilà: Skin Shrinker has renamed the .skn and edited the .cmx and they will now work perfectly.(Don't forget that every downloads from this site have been already converted, so you don't need to do anything! ;))
I've been asked for a password when I tried to unzip the files. Could you give it to me?
Oh, there's no password, actully. It's a bug caused by the 'Icon' file. You have probably tried to unzip it, and it asks you a password because it doesn't understand what to do with: the 'Icon' file is useless on Windows, it's only there because I zipped my files on Mac, but don't pay attention to it, and once again: there's no password neeeded, so I can't give one to you! ;)

How to make skins?
You need to have a painting program like PaintPro (PC), Photoshop (Mac-PC), GraphicConverter (Mac), etc.., and a program to preview your skins:
For Windows:SimShow (Maxis) or SimPose
For Mac:SimShow (Aspyr)
Check some Skins tutorials:
How to create meshes?
You need to have a 3D program and a program to preview your skins (like SimShow or SimPose):
For Window:
3D - MilkShake 3D
Preview - SimShow or SimPose
For Mac:
3D - Meshwork (beta - you can import .skn, but not export)
Preview - SimShow
Check some Meshes tutorials:

Can you make a skin for me?
No. You can't guess how many skins I would like to do (more men, more winter clothes, more fat women, more kids faces..). I don't even think I'll have time to make the quarter of all of them, so really I can't take requests. Moreover, I'm absolulty not interested in celebrities skins, so..
Can I use your heads as models for my skins and put their picture on my site?
Yes, sure! I'd be honored that my sweetie skins will begin an international model career by figuring on your site! ;)
Send me your link, I'd be glad to see them!
Credit to my site would be nice, though.. ;)
Can I distribute your skins? Can I recolor or use a piece of your skin to create mine?
Sorry, but no: my skins (like all my creations) have been made for this site and only for this site, so you can't redistribute them, nor alter them in any way.

You say your meshes are converted for Mac. Will they work on my PC?
Yes, of course! The only difference is that the file names are shorter, but they will work with Windows without any troubles.
How can I rename my skins for Hot Date, Vacation, SuperStars?
For Mac: You can use Sims-Skins-Renamer and Sims-Mesh-Renamer to rename automatically your skins for a given expansion pack. (Thanks to my darling! ;))
For Windows: I suppose there's a tool that let you do that automatically, but as I use a Mac, I don't know all the application that exist for PC.. So, I'll explain you how to rename the skins by yourself. :)
The skins you'll find on my site exist already in Hot Date version, but if you have downloaded some skins elsewhere and that you would like to use them as buyable items in Dowtown, you'll have to rename them:
For example:
B325fafitlgt_ATS_Evening001.bmp
B325fafitlgt_ATS_Evening001.bmp
B325fafitlgt_ATS_Evening001.bmp
We're going to make of these skins Hot date buyable formal dresses; to do so, replace the 'B' by a 'F':
So you rename the files like this:
F325fafitlgt_ATS_Evening001.bmp
F325fafitlgt_ATS_Evening001.bmp
F325fafitlgt_ATS_Evening001.bmp
But you have also to rename the .cmx part of the mesh (work on a copy; the original might be used by normal skins):
b325fafit_jvdpr_heels2.cmxHere again, replace the 'B' by the 'F':
F325fafit_jvdpr_heels2.cmx Last, open your .cmx in a text editor:

'// Character File. Copyright 1997, Maxis Inc.
version 300

1
b325fafit_JVDPR_heels2
0
0
1
PELVIS
xskin-b325fafit_heels2-BODY
0

And replace the name of the cmx by the one you have given (I mean: replace the first 'B' by a 'F').'// Character File. Copyright 1997, Maxis Inc.
version 300

F325fafit_JVDPR_heels2
0

PELVIS
xskin-B325fafit_heels2-BODY

And voilà. =)If you want to use the skins for swimming-suits or pajamas, then, use a 'S' for the swimming-wear or a 'L' for the lingerie instead of the 'F':
F
for formal
S for swimming-suit
L for lingerie (pajamas)
W for winter (Vacations)
H for high-fashion (SuperStar)
Can I use your skins as pajamas, formal, swimming-suits?
Yes, it depends if you have Hot Date/Vacation or not:
If you have Hot Date or the Sims Vacation:
Download the HD/SV version of the skins and of the meshes, install them in the GameData/Skins folder, and then, your Sims need to go Downtown to buy their new clothes (lingerie, winter wear, swimming-suits and formal: Hot Date is required for adults swimming-wear, formal and lingerie; Vacation is required for adults winter-wear and for all the clothes for kids).
If you don't have Hot Date nor the Sims Vacations:
you have two possibilities: change the default skins or give a skin to a particular Sim.
• Change the defaults: rename the files as below:
Formal: FFfitLGT_01 (F = formal)
Swimming: UFFitlgt_01 (U = underwear?)
Pyjama: PajamaFlgt_01 (Pajama = Pajama..)
Primer premier 6 keygen. The example I took is a white fit female Sim, but you can change the name, as explained here to make clothes for an other Sim. A formal suit for a dark fit male skin will be:
FMfitDRK_01
You also need to rename the mesh, ex: PajamaFfit_01.cmx
You might have noticed that we don't have 'A' for adult nor 'C' for children, here. It means children and adults will wear the same clothes (so think about it before giving to your little girl a hot-sexy pajama.. or giving to your mediterranean guy a swimming-suit with teddybears..)• Give a clothe to a particular Sim:
The principe is the same as for changing the default, but change the '01' by 8 first characters of the name of your skin's clothes. For example: if you have a skin named 'B333FAfitLGT_LongLovelyBlackDress', the pajama/swimming/formal for THAT skin must be called: PajamaFlgt_LongLove (so if you have an other skin named 'LongLovelyGreenDress', well.. they'll get the same pajama.
Note: if you can give a particular pajama/etc to a skin, you can't give them a particular mesh: all your female pajamas will use the same mesh, as well as the formal and swimming-suits.
What's the difference between a Sims skin and a Hot Date one?
A Hot Date skin requires the expansion pack Hot Date (logical, huh?). Your Sims will be able to buy the clothings (lingerie, swimming-suits and formal) in the Downtown shops.
Their names are different: while a skin file always begins by 'B' (like 'Body') for a normal skin, Hot Date skin's file name will begin by a:
F for formal
S for swimming-suit
L for lingerie (pajamas)
W for winter (Vacations)
H for high-fashion (SuperStar)
Some of your Sims have an inscription 'HD' or 'SV'; what does it mean?
HD is for Hot Date, and it indicates that these skins that can be bought in Downtown (Hot Date), it concerns the adults skins of formal, lingerie or swimming-suits. SV is for Sims Vacation, those skins can be bought too, but in Sims Vacation. It concern children skins or winter skins (both adult and children).
What is a mesh? .CMX, .SKN, what's that? Why does the name of a skin matter?
A skin (a character) is made with 2 parts (the body and the head). Bodies and heads need a texture (.bmp files) and a 3D volume, called the mesh (.cmx and .skn files)Let's have a look on a skin's name:
B777FAfitLGT_robette.bmp
B = relative to the body (C is relative to the head)
777 = n° of the mesh used (you must have .cmx and .skn files with the strings 'FA777')
F = female. Also: M = male
A = Adult. Also: C = child
fit = fit (size of the body). Also: skn =skinny and fat = fat
LGT = light skin tone. Also DRK =dark or MED = Medium.
So, our example is a white fit woman, wearing a 'robette' texture on a '777' mesh, ok? =)
XXL skins
As you have probably noticed, the Maxis' fat women lack of curves. That's why some skinners created other beautiful curvy bodies models for 'fat' ladies, the XXL ones, created by SimSisters, and the Rubenesque, created by Mermaid Cove.
Most of the skinners use the 'XXL' tag in the name of the skins (ex: B325faXXL_..), and then, they need to put the buyable skins for those ladies, in the 'fit' category, as the game doesn't recognize 'XXL'.
I have never found this very logical, and I like better having all my curvy ladies in the 'fat' section, so I had to rename the BMP and the meshes as 'Fat' and no more as 'XXL', but I kept track of the XXL in the name of the meshes (ex: B325fafat_XXL..)
You need to download the nude skin as well if you don't want to see your sims get suddenly thiner because they have a shower or so. ;)
You'll be able to link the nude skin to a XXL lady by using SimWardrobe (free) or SimEnhancer (paying).

  • I installed The Sims Deluxe Edition and the Vacation, Unleashed, and Makin Magic expansion packs on my laptop two nights ago. I received the error message about running it as an Administrator, so I uninstalled the Windows Update from the first post in the thread and everything worked fine. I was able to play and make Sims and a house and such. I needed to check something on the internet, so I hit the Windows key to bring up my desktop. After that I couldn't really click on anything, not even the start button, unless I brought the task manager up. I went back into the Sims and everything still worked fine.
Last night I started up The Sims again and received an error message that @kyomilinh posted in this thread: 'It has come to our attention that you have installed another Sims expansion pack after The Sims Makin Magic. For this to work properly, The Sims Makin Magic installer will now update your installation.' I clicked OK and then it asked me if I wanted to uninstall. Assuming that it was only going to uninstall Makin Magic, I clicked OK, but it uninstalled all of the original Sims games.
I tried reinstalling only Deluxe Edition today, but when I run the game it crashes at the loading screen, as described by @Myabear . The game crashes, brings me back to my desktop, and says 'The Sims Deluxe Edition has stopped working.'
I installed any Windows Updates that needed to be installed, which reinstalled the security update that makes the game not work, so I uninstalled it, restarted, and hid it as recommended from this thread. I have tried running the game in multiple different compatibility modes, have tried uninstalling and reinstalling numerous times, opened cmd and tried the command prompts for the security driver, etc. Nothing. Works. Any ideas? I'm so frustrated because everything worked before so I know that theoretically it should be working, but it's not.

I had the same problem!! I found a solution. I hope it will help you too .
Within the compatibility you can chose something else than Win98.. For me The XP pack3 worked.. You can try the pack 2 or Win95 too.
But most important the update of 09/2015 (KB3086255) isn't the only one you have to uninstall.. The update KB2670838 is blockin too (09/2014). But be careful, that update is needed if you use Internet Explorer 10. I don't so it wasn't a problem..
Once you deleted the update, restart you computer. It took me 90min for the computer to start again. I don't if it's my computer or not but just to tell you to be patient .
Don't forget to check that all buttons have the same compatibility and the administrative runner . I put it on the start button and the Sims.exe.
I hope it will help you .

Wait, that's the same update that causes DirectX 10 games to crash such as Devil May Cry 4, BioShock 2, and Resident Evil 5 (GFWL version). The Sims isn't a DX10 game, it uses DirectX 7. When I get Windows 7 on the Dell XPS 410, I might see how The Sims reacts to the KB2670838 update.
@urkadurka@Lily5921 I'm guessing you don't have The Sims Complete Collection. I only have the Complete Collection so I do not know how the older The Sims games work.

I belive you . But I don't know how those two updates crashes the Sims 1 so I can't explain. I just know it does lol. Because since I uninstalled the second one (for Direct X10) it woks fine ^^.
However.. when I right click on the updates I only have the possibility of uninstall. I can't hide. Any idea how I can do that please? I have to uninstall them each time I wanna play ^^.
    Thanx for the info
  • Hello, I am a new member and cannot post a thread. However, I was hoping that someone could help. I have been wanting to play the Sims 1 on my Windows 7 laptop. I purchased the game over Amazon. I installed it and it seemed to install just fine. When I try to launch the game, the launcher comes up, but once I hit 'play' and '1024 X 768', it just crashes and brings me back to the desktop screen. I have tried launching in compatibility mode, administrator and 256 color. I have also tried uninstalling the update KB3086255. Nothing seems to work I have read through many posts trying to figure out a solution. Does anyone have ANY other suggestions?! I just want to play this game for old times sake!! I read through your post and many others but I cannot seem to find a solution!!!
    Thank you for any advice!
  • I can't create my own thread either but I have the same problem, however I have windows 10 and I can only find 10 updates on my computer since 2015 and no one is KB308. What should I do?
  • I'm in the same boat right now. I've deleted that update in the past but my game isn't working again. No idea what to do
  • @KHS12 What I did was search for a modified sims.exe, move it to my sims folder (make sure you still keep the original .exe, call it something like original_sims.exe) I didn't delete any updates, mostly because there were no updates to delete, like @Nebulanenmilk said.
I did go to the youtube video, and checked out the site he mentions in the video discription, but that seemed dodgy at best. He also 'warns' about ads and viruses on that site..so I searched for another. What .exe you want to get depends on your version of the game: what expansions do you have? Do you have Delux/Double Delux? Complete collection? My search was: sims 1 superstar no cd patch. Just substitute with your game version. Should give you plenty of results. Don't know if I can mention the name of the site I ended up using, if I can find it again..? Didn't save a bookmark to it.

I have the Complete Collection. I was able to play it for a few months but one day it just stopped working. Thought about uninstalling and reinstalling it but I'm not sure it would work. I've downloaded some versions online before as well but they're not quite right or are missing certain packs.

  • @KHS12 I think Win 7 and 10 have the same problem when it comes to older games that use SafeDisc. Have you tried running as administrator, and the different compatibility modes (shortcut properties/Compatibility)? I've seen some say it only works for them in Win XP service pack 3, some say service pack 2, it varies. I run mine in SP 3, as admin. I tried all of that with the original .exe too, nothing worked. Just do a search for a no-cd patch for Complete Collection, and you'll hopefully be playing again before long :) You can also check the next to last post on the previous page. It has a link to a Google drive that has the file you would want.

Yep did all of that to no avail I'm downloading another version of the complete collection because I can't seem to figure out the plum .exe file business.
  • Yeah, its tricky buissiness these day, getting it to work :( Was sitting here for hours trying to figure it out, before getting that modified exe. The game has crashed a couple of times (not responding) but at least it works. Crossing my fingers you also work things out with it :)

  • This sounds like the best way to run The Sims on Windows 7, but is it completely safe to uninstall this security update?

Which compatibility mode setting was it? I've been trying to get the Sims 1 to work on my computer, but it hasn't worked so far..

Just thought I'd post what I did to get TS1 to work. I have Windows 10. Installation went fine, some people have had problems. If the installation won't start (autorun won't start), find setup.exe on the discs and run that.
I looked for a no-cd patch that would match the last expansion I installed (since to get the game to run, I couldn't use the cd to play), which was Superstar at the time. Did a Google-search for 'no-cd patch sims 1' and ended up getting the exe from Gamecopyworld. Now, be sure to keep your virus/adware/malware scanners at the ready, you never know if the files are safe or not. I have had no problems with the 2 files I got from GCW. Also found another site: http://www.awesomeexpression.com/sims-1-no-cd.html which also has a sims.exe for download, though I don't know if that is for the Complete collection or what.. It seems safer than any of the other sites I've found, anyway.
Locate where your game is installed. Mine is in C:Program Files (x86)/Maxis. Find sims.exe and rename to something else, like sims_original.exe. Now move the sims.exe you just downloaded to that folder. Put a shortcut on your desktop, right-click it and select properties, then the compatibility tab.
Mine works with Windows XP Service pack 3, run as administrator. You might have to try something else entirely.
    Good luck, and happy simming!
ETA: There is also a vote on gog.com to get TS1 Complete collection on there. Much rather have the game as a (legal) digital download than have to struggle with all those CD's again.

  • I have The Complete Collection with a nocd from plum.org It's running fine on Win 10. I did have to run it as an admin in Win 7 compat mode, you can try other compat modes, too. If you are playing and decide to press the Windows button to multitask, switching to Windows will badly screw up the game's graphics. I end up having to kill the game in task manager when I do that. But if I play and don't switch out, my game is smooth and stable. My old game backups from 2003 actually still worked! How crazy is that. And what a strange feeling to go back to my sims and find them all exactly as I left them. I did have to use SkinDoctor to clean out old bad skins, and I ran a GUID check and fixed a few conflicts. Now my game is smooth as silk. The only problem I've had is my new recolors, the game's thumbnails aren't refreshing. Also, Tmog and the game are shoving files into AppData/VirtualStore. You have to hunt around in there. That might be why my recolors aren't refreshing. I just renamed the userdata it shoved into VirtualStore, but haven't tested it yet. There is one other thing. To get the old modding programs working, some of them require old .ocx files. Win 10 doesn't have them. I put up a file with them and instructions at my site. Once installed, programs like SimCategorizer will work again, but you must run them all as an admin. You can get the file at my site.

You can prevent your Sims 1 game and tools from storing items in the Virtual Store folder by installing to a non-UAC location. By this, I mean not in the Wondows or Program Files or Program Files[x86] folders. I created a Games folder and installed Sims 1 to C:GamesMaxis. No need to run as admin then, as there is no UAC in play.

I've seen other people with this problem but the solutions they use don't work for me. ):
    I'm using Windows 7.
I installed the Sims Deluxe Edition with the expansions Hot Date and Vacation. At first I couldn't get it to work at all, then I deleted KB3086255 and everything was fine. The next day I tried to launch it again and it gave the message I have seen quoted on this discussion 'It has come to our attention that you have installed another Sims expansion pack....' and asks to update the installation. Upon clicking OK it asks me if I'd like to uninstall the Sims.
In accordance with this thread I also deleted KB2670838 but that hasn't done anything and I'm getting the same message.
Could someone please help me? I love this game so much and I don't want to have to reinstall it and the expansion packs every time I want to play..
  • Hi guys, another way to do this on Windows 7, is to enable the service the update KB3086255 disables by default and disabling it afterwards again with a few CMD console commands. In my opinion it is a lot safer than uninstalling the update. It goes as follows: Open command prompt in elevated mode, by pressing 'start' typing 'cmd', right click and Run as administrator. Now type 'sc config secdrv start= demand' and press enter, then 'sc start secdrv' and press enter. Keep cmd open and run the game. Afterwords just change the commands to stop the service like so: 'sc stop secdrv' and press enter, and then 'sc config secdrv start= disabled' and press enter.
  • I’m looking for that update but I can’t find it. I don’t know what to do from there. Please someone help me out cause i just got this game for the nostalgia!
  • I have windows 8.1, and I tried using windows exp service pack 3 and it dosen't seem to work for me :-(
  • I figured out how to get this game to run flawlessly on WINDOWS 7.
Theres a few steps but this worked for me.
    -Install VMWARE with Windows XP
-Install Sims 1 into the virtual machine
-Copy Directory contents (c:/Program Files>Maxis>Sims) from virtual machine to main computer (Using USB or Folder Share)
    -close VMWARE
-Move folder into program files (or a permanent location on HD)
-copy No Cd Patch to the root of the folder (Make sure you back up the original .exe - Save as simsOLD.exe)
-Next you'll want to right click on the new Sims.exe you just copied and go to the compatibility tab
-click Always run as ADMIN at the bottom and press apply and ok (You might have to click windows XP Service Pack 3 too but I didn't have to)
-You should have no problems running this game from this point however
-there is a glitch where the sound and music just cut out and you won't hear anything.
-go to my computer and right click on the sims CD
-Find the music folder and grab the entire folder and copy into the root of the game directory folder with the no cd patch you installed eariler
-this will fix the music from glitching out.
I hope this helps somebody. It took me a few hours to figure this out.
